How does duplex printing work?

There are two types of duplex printing to consider:

  • Automatic duplex printing allows the printer to flip the paper internally and print on both sides without user intervention. This is typically what is meant by duplex printing.

  • Manual duplex printing requires the user to reinsert the paper after one side has been printed so the printer can print on the other side. While this is, by definition, printing on both sides of a sheet of paper, because it is manual it is not generally considered as a definition of duplex printing.
